What Problems Should Be Paid Attention to During The Customization of Compostable Bags?

SUWEIEN |

Many customers need to customize different types of compostable packaging bags for the packaging of their products.

Most of them need custom dimensions and print logos in different order quantities. Many manufacturers have minimum order quantity,

This can also call MOQ.  What problems should be paid attention to during the customization of compostable packaging bags?

I hope those suggestions below would help you to save time and save money during the customs process.

1、Large Quantity and Small Quantity

Custom orders mean the manufacturer has to run new production for every order, and the factory incurs a fixed cost for each production run. Therefore, it is better to order as large a quantity as possible to achieve lower costs. Generally, the base cost for unprinted bags ranges from USD 50 to USD 100, depending on their size and thickness. Larger sizes and greater thicknesses incur higher costs, while smaller and thinner bags cost less. For printed bags, the cost typically ranges from USD 60 to USD 120 per unit. Additionally, printing packaging bags requires a printing mold, which incurs an additional cost ranging from USD 60 to USD 150 per color. For instance, if five colors are used, the mold costs would be USD 60 × 5 or USD 150 × 5, which adds significant expense when planning custom compostable packaging bags.

Given these fixed costs, it is advantageous to order larger quantities whenever possible to amortize these expenses over more units. If you are uncertain about the quantity needed, you can ask suppliers for tiered pricing, which offers different unit costs based on varying quantities. This allows you to decide on the appropriate quantity to order.

2、Be Sure to Confirm the Delivery Date

Don’t forget to ask the manufacturer about the lead time or the expected delivery date.

Even if you are not in a hurry, it's important to communicate that your delivery date is urgent. Why?

Customized packaging bags typically require a significant lead time, usually ranging from 10 to 30 days at minimum. A 10-day turnaround is considered quite fast.

During busy production periods, many orders may get pushed back. If you don’t actively follow up on your orders, non-urgent orders might be deprioritized. This could lead to unexpected delays—often, when you're ready to ship, you might find that your order hasn't even started production yet, and then it might be delayed for another 1-2 weeks.

3、Quality Control

A good approach to working with a new supplier is to first assess the scale of their factory—whether it is small, medium, or large. Typically, a medium-sized manufacturer is preferable as they can handle both large and small orders. Once you've identified a potential supplier, the next step is to request samples of their previous work to evaluate the quality. If the samples meet your standards, you can proceed to have them create samples specifically for your needs and ensure everything is satisfactory with the sample bags.

However, if time is of the essence, the initial step is crucial—you need to find a supplier with strong qualifications.

When customizing your order, the thickness of the bags is crucial. Ensure you are clear on the thickness quoted by the supplier and verify that the samples or bulk production match this specification.

Another critical quality aspect is the sealing of the bags. Ensure there are no seals that are broken or compromised.

Most importantly, pay attention to your custom logo. Verify that it has been printed accurately with the desired design effect and positioned correctly.

4、One Order or Separate Orders?

Compostable packaging bags cannot be stored for a long time. If you do not need them urgently, please avoid keeping them in the warehouse for an extended period.

You should carefully consider the manufacturing costs when determining the appropriate order quantity. As mentioned earlier, there are fixed costs associated with producing custom goods. Therefore, inquire about pricing for different quantities to make an informed decision.

Additionally, consider the timing of your product's market launch when deciding on the order quantity. The lead time of the manufacturer, whether it is fast or slow, can also influence your decision.

5、Payment Term

You can negotiate with us to use the trade assurance payment term. For small orders with a lower payment amount, you can use PayPal, which also offers payment protection.

If the supplier insists on TT (Telegraphic Transfer) payment only, you must ensure they are reliable and trustworthy. How can you verify this?

First, you can engage a third-party factory inspection company to conduct a factory audit.

Second, if feasible, visit the factory in person.

Third, communicate with the supplier to verify their authenticity as a genuine factory or supplier in the industry.

Lastly, consider using another payment term, such as a letter of credit.

6、Confirm The Packing Details

When asking for the price, it's advisable to request detailed packaging information as well. This ensures that you provide clear instructions to the supplier on how the packaging should be done, thus helping to avoid any mistakes.

When placing an order, be aware that suppliers may increase the price for additional packaging requests.

Additionally, when receiving a quote, you can ask the manufacturer if the price includes all costs and if it covers everything.

7、Include Freight or Not

One important consideration is whether the quote includes delivery costs. Sometimes, especially when goods need to be shipped abroad, the delivery costs can exceed the cost of the goods themselves. Even if the packaging bags are being delivered locally, it's essential to confirm with the manufacturer whether delivery costs are included in the quote or not.
